Local experience

Since 1996

Saunas have a settled place in the Costa del Sol lifestyle alongside the pool, the gym corner and the spa terrace. A regular sauna routine pairs well with cold-water plunges, post-tennis recovery and the slower winter months when the pool is closed. We supply and install saunas in villas, townhouses and apartment blocks across the coast from Nerja to Gibraltar. The work covers the cabin itself, the electrical supply, the ventilation and the controls, sized to how often the household will use it and to the space available. EnviroCare has been fitting wellness products on the coast out of Mijas since 1996.

Finnish, infrared or combination

Three cabin types cover almost every install. The traditional Finnish sauna runs an electric heater (or a wood-fired stove on a few outdoor installs) that brings the cabin to 70 to 90 degrees, with a basket of stones that holds heat and accepts water for steam. The infrared cabin runs lower air temperatures (45 to 60 degrees) and uses infrared panels to warm the body directly through deep penetration, which suits owners who find Finnish sauna heat too intense. Combination cabins switch between Finnish and infrared modes and are the most flexible answer for households with mixed preferences.

  • Finnish: 70 to 90 degree air, stones, water for steam
  • Infrared: 45 to 60 degree air, direct body warming through panels
  • Combination: switchable Finnish and infrared in one cabin
  • Wood-fired Finnish: outdoor installs with a flue, no electrical heater

Indoor or outdoor installation

Indoor saunas fit into a converted bathroom, a corner of the gym or a basement utility space. Two-person to four-person cabins suit most villa retrofits and need a minimum floor area of about 1.5 by 1.5 metres for the smallest models, up to 2.5 by 2 metres for a four-person family cabin. Outdoor saunas sit on a level base in the garden, work well next to a pool for the heat-and-plunge routine, and on a wood-fired model need a twin-wall flue and a clearance from combustibles. We check the floor structure, the wall framing, the existing electrical capacity and the ventilation on the site survey before any cabin gets specified.

Electrical supply and the boletin update

Most electric saunas need a dedicated circuit. A two-person Finnish cabin runs from a 16A single-phase supply, a four-person family cabin needs 32A and a larger commercial-grade cabin runs on three-phase. The supply gets pulled from the consumer unit on its own breaker and RCD, with the boletin de instalacion electrica updated to record the new circuit. Where the property's existing consumer unit is full or out of date, we usually pair the sauna install with a consumer-unit upgrade so the new circuit fits cleanly with the rest of the household electrics.

Ventilation, drainage and chemistry

Saunas need a small ventilation grille at low level for fresh-air intake and a passive vent at high level to release moist warm air. Most cabins come with both pre-cut into the panels, and the install ties them to the room's existing ventilation. Indoor saunas in converted bathrooms benefit from a floor drain set into the room, because the cabin itself will release steam when water is thrown on the stones. There is no chemistry to manage on a sauna in the way there is on a hot tub: the inside of the cabin is dry timber, wiped down after each use.

Aftercare and warranty

A residential sauna in regular use needs the timber wiped down after every session, the floor swept weekly and a deeper clean once or twice a year. The heater elements last five to ten years on a Finnish unit, the infrared panels last fifteen years on a combination cabin. We supply replacement stones, heater elements, infrared panels and electronic controls when they need it. Every sauna install carries the standard three-year EnviroCare warranty on parts and labour, on top of the cabin manufacturer's warranty.

How the work runs

From first call to commissioned system

  1. Step 1

    Free site survey

An engineer visits the property to check the room or outdoor space, measure the available footprint, identify a route for the electrical supply and assess the ventilation. Survey appointments are free across the Costa del Sol.

  2. Step 2

    Cabin selection and quote

We send a written quote covering the cabin type, the size, the heater specification, the electrical supply, the ventilation work and the labour figure. No deposit until you accept it.

  3. Step 3

    Pre-install electrical work

A registered electrician pulls the dedicated circuit from the consumer unit, terminates the breaker and the RCD, and updates the boletin. Most pre-install electrical jobs run as half a day to a day depending on the cable run.

  4. Step 4

    Cabin build and commissioning

We assemble the cabin on site over one to two days, connect the heater, fit the controls, test the temperature curve and walk through the controls at handover.

  5. Step 5

    Three-year warranty

Every sauna install carries a three-year EnviroCare warranty on parts and labour.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

How much space does a sauna need?

A two-person Finnish or infrared cabin fits a 1.5 by 1.5 metre footprint plus a small clearance for the door swing. A four-person family cabin needs roughly 2 by 2 metres. We confirm what fits the available space on the survey.

Finnish or infrared?

Finnish saunas run hotter and drier (or wetter with water thrown on the stones), suit shorter sessions and feel like a traditional sauna. Infrared cabins run cooler with longer comfortable sessions and suit owners who find Finnish heat intense. Combination cabins switch between both modes.

Do I need a special electrical supply?

Yes. Saunas run on a dedicated circuit from the consumer unit, with the breaker and the RCD sized to the heater output. A two-person Finnish cabin runs from a 16A circuit. A four-person family cabin needs 32A. We pull the new circuit and update the boletin de instalacion electrica as part of the install.

Can I install a sauna outside?

Yes. Outdoor saunas sit on a level base in the garden, often next to a pool for the heat-and-plunge routine. Wood-fired models need a twin-wall flue and the right clearance from combustibles. Electric outdoor cabins still need a weather-protected enclosure for the heater controls and the supply.

How much does a sauna cost to run?

A two-person Finnish cabin used three times a week pulls roughly 10 to 25 euro a month on Costa del Sol electricity tariffs, depending on session length and heater rating. Infrared cabins run lower because the panels do not need to bring a full cabin volume up to 80 degrees.

How long does a sauna install take?

Two to three days end-to-end on most residential installs: half a day to a day for the electrical work, one to two days to assemble the cabin and commission it. Outdoor saunas with a base build can run longer if the base needs civils work.
