Air conditioning vents collect dust, pollen, hair and general household debris. In a coastal home, damp air can make that build-up worse.
Clean vents help airflow and can reduce musty smells. They also make it easier to spot when a ducted system needs a deeper clean.
What you can clean yourself
For visible grilles and filters:
- Switch the air conditioning off.
- Remove the grille or filter carefully.
- Vacuum loose dust with a brush attachment.
- Wash removable filters or grilles where the manufacturer allows it.
- Let everything dry fully before refitting.
Do not force a grille, bend a filter or spray cleaning products into the indoor unit.
When to call an engineer
Call for a professional clean if:
- airflow is weak after the filters are clean
- vents smell musty
- dust returns quickly after cleaning
- there is visible mould around vents
- a ducted system has not been cleaned for several years
Ducted systems need more than surface cleaning. The indoor unit, coil, drain, duct branches and supply vents may all need inspection.
Why regular cleaning matters
Restricted airflow makes the system work harder. That can increase running costs, reduce cooling and put extra strain on the fan and compressor.
If you have ducted air conditioning, EnviroCare can inspect the vents and quote for a proper clean where needed.
